Forum: GratefulDead Subject: SBDs of the upcoming Other Ones tour?

So...what is the probability that we, the public, will be able to get our hands on a SBD recording of concerts from the upcoming The Other Ones tour? Without paying money? Like through trading like the old days or on a website such as LMA?

5%? 25%? 95%?

Do they not realize that they have made more money as a result of the free-flow of music to all potential fans? I would not have gotten into the Dead 5 years ago if it were not for the accidental stumbling upon LMA and the Barton 5/8/77 show. Since then I've acquired more than 400 Dead shows, purchased > $500 of Dead/DSO/Phil Lesh/Ratdog music and other stuff, and have given out about a dozen CD/DVD's of Dead music to friends who want to learn more about them. Surely as this spreads, the band will acquire even more fans and make even more money.

For the love of God please at least allow some sort of recording of these shows!!!

I've been actively listening to the Dead and related side projects since 1995. I realize I am a newbie. Having said that....

Am I the only one who really enjoyed the Hornsby/Kimock/Karan Other Ones line-up and felt all ensemble playing after this line up seemed to be missing something?

I've enjoyed both Ratdog and Phil (I feel Phil has really broken ground and done neat things) but really have not enjoyed the Dead. I liked the terrapin station shows at Alpine, but as a whole, really think the best line-up included Hornsby and Kimock. Yes, those early Other Ones shows were rough at spots, but there was something to it I don't hear with Warren.

Regardless, I am glad music is being played and people are enjoying it. Hopefully this upcoming tour will be their best yet.

You are not the only one who enjoyed the Hornsby/Kimock/Karan Other Ones line-up. The Way It Is at Deer Creek was epic.

Are they at least allowing taping? Even if the music is not the best, I think it would be cool to "follow" them by listening to the shows the day after.

Haven't heard if they sell the board tapes on CDs this time or not. If you can't tape, it's probably because of Warren Haynes. The Allman Bros types don't really like you and they hate all of this internet trading. That goes for the archive and bit torrent sites too.

I won't pay for this music, if it sounds as bad as the Innauguration...

I don't understand how you can blame Warren. I must have downloaded 50 Gov't Mule and Warren Solo Acoustic shows on various bit torrent sites. The recording equipment seemed pretty visible when I saw Gov't Mule in Myrtle beach last fall. I think Warren could have seen it from the stage.

I'm sure they will allow taping, but like others here, I'm not sure I want to hear it.
